PowerUp and Project Bink

With the right educational tools, children have the power to realize their full potential. They can make life better for themselves AND their communities. That’s why we all share our time, resources, and experiences in PowerUp’s programs: to give children the life-changing tools they need to succeed!

This month, we’re excited to partner with Project BINK to give you another sharing opportunity – one that will help even more kids.

We are asking you to answer a simple but important question: What was your life changing moment?

Think about why children’s education is important to you. Think about what made you get involved in PowerUp’s programs. Then, just record your story in a 2-4 minute video (Phone cameras welcome!).

By sharing your story, you will help others see the importance of childhood education, and encourage them to get involved. You will help spread PowerUp’s mission – and ensure that more kids receive the educational tools they need.

If you have a life changing moment, now’s the time to share it!

PowerUp Golf Session with Girl Code Encouragement Block

In 2010 we hosted our very first PowerUp golf clinic for youth in Kenya. It was so amazing! Life ‘changingly’ amazing!

Since then, PowerUp has been dedicated to spreading the love of the game of Golf.

We are always looking for opportunities to be part of programs and activities that challenge our under-served youth to excel in life by promoting leadership development, life-skills training opportunities, and values through education and the game of golf.

To kick off this year’s summer season, we partnered with Girl Code to host a summer Golf Camp! We hosted some powerful girls who were ready to learn about the fantastic game of golf.

Encouragement Block is dedicated to the personal empowerment of youth and adults by encouraging them to unlock their potential through activities focused on education, career, and personal development.

So what is Girl Code? It was developed by the founder of Encourgament Block, Deshawna Colvin. Girl Code is a monthly initiative geared to equip youth girls with the knowledge, resources, and network needed to gain a greater understanding of who they are and the path needed to fulfill their God-given purpose.

PowerUp Charity Golf Tournament

It is the intention of PowerUp to market the game of golf to schools, colleges and universities worldwide to demonstrate the value of the game and demystify the myth that golf is only a rich man’s sport. Ten years ago, a mobile phone was a rich man’s tool, today, a mobile phone is a basic need. Within 10 years from now, golf will become like a mobile phone.

Golf is sentimental to Liza Mucheru Wisner whose father rose up from a golf caddy to a golf champion and for whom the game of golf formed a platform for his success in overcoming the challenges of rising from rags to riches. Through PowerUp, Liza participates in golf clinics for underprivileged children.

Liza participates in tournaments, youth training sessions, among other activities, to publicize PowerUp and celebrate the dawn of a new era where golf becomes available to all children in the world.

PowerUp hosted a fundraising golf tournament at Muthaiga Golf Club on November 25, 2010.  They also hosted a golf clinic for children who live in the nearby Mathare slum.

Our vision is simple, it is clear and it is the way of the future.

“I believe that the value of children is grossly underestimated and I would like to have the opportunity to show that in fact, children are the most valued asset in the world. What I love most about my business idea is that it has great potential of protecting children from abuse and neglect and instead offering children the opportunity to quality education that can provide them with healthy and productive lives.” ~Founder, Liza Mucheru Wisner
